Pada PLTB type 3, digunakan generator induksi rotor belitan. Rotor motor induksi disuply dengan konverter arus terkendali yang frekuensinya menyesuaikan kebutuhan rotor melalui slip ring dan sikat. Frekuensi rotor diatur sedemikian rupa sehingga kecepatan sudut mekanik rotor ditambah kecepatan sudut arus rotor sama dengan kecepatan sinkronnya.
