Mengenal Antiseptik

Mecca City Council complains of Ramadan food waste

http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-28168162 Mecca City Council complains of Ramadan food waste Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month, promotes self-denial, but Mecca City Council in Saudi Arabia is complaining that it's having to deal with ever greater amounts of food waste. Council official Osama al-Zaytuni told the Arab News website that refuse workers collected 5,000 tonnes of waste in the first three days, "not including 28,000 sheep carcasses". The council of Islam's holiest city has installed 45 waste compressors near the Central Mosque and sent out an extra 8,000 street-cleaners for the duration of the holiday to try to cope with the problem. A study by King Saud University rates Saudi Arabia as the biggest waster of food in the world, with 30% of the four million dishes prepared during Ramadan being thrown away uneaten at a cost of 1.2m Saudi Riyals (£187,000; $320,000). Specialists blame the Ramadan practices of buying...

There is More Than One Way To Sterilize a Wound

http://disastermedicine-christine.blogspot.com/2010/03/there-is-more-than-one-way-to-sterilize.html There is More Than One Way To Sterilize a Wound I know. I know. If I steer away from the beloved alcohol post, you won't be able to enjoy the bitter beer face anymore. Don't cry, moving on is an important part of life. Yes, the sensational appeal of an old scary man bringing his bottom lip up high enough to swallow his whole head just brings tears to our eyes, but... No more beer for you! ;) Since, alcohol is such a volatile substance to be pouring on any wound, I'm going to move to more gentler and practical means of sterilizing and cleaning wounds. Cleaning wounds: Everyone loves having their wounds cleaned, especially when we have to take a wire scrubbing brush to them just to clean out the debris and dirt. In a different post, I will discuss the need for analgesics and the favorite question of how to administer lidocaine. Although, if you were...

camera lightning trigger

http://3scape.com/blog/2012/03/camera-lightning-trigger/ For some time now, I’ve been looking for a better way to capture incredible lightning photos other than pushing the shutter button over and over hoping to catch a bolt.  The image on the left was a 15-second exposure that luckily captured two lightning bolts in the same frame.  The third bolt was added from a second frame a few minutes later. Some commercial lightning triggers are available, if you’re willing to part with a few hundred dollars, which I was not, for an experimental endeavor.  So I started researching home brew solutions that would allow me to tinker while also saving a bunch of money.  Enter: Arduino – a powerful open source prototyping platform utilizing ATmega programmable microcontrollers. At this point I would like to thank Maurice Ribble for his incredible...
